Digital line graph (DLG) are digital representations of cartographic information. DLG's of map features are converted to digital form from maps and related sources. Large-scale DLG data are derived from USGS 1:20,000-, 1:24,000-, and 1:25,000-scale 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle maps. Large-scale DLG data are available in nine categories: (1) hypsography, (2) hydrography, (3) vegetative surface cover, (4) non-vegetative features, (5) boundaries, (6) survey control and markers, (7) transportation, (8) manmade features, (9) Public Land Survey System. All DLG data distributed by the USGS are DLG - Level 3 (DLG-3), which means the data contain a full range of attribute codes, have full topological structuring, and have passed certain quality-control checks.
			<purpose>DLG's depict information about geographic features on or near the surface of the Earth, terrain, and political and administrative units. These data were collected as part of the National Mapping Program.</purpose>

		<logic>
Topological requirements include: lines must begin and end at nodes, lines must connect to each other at nodes, lines do not extend through nodes, left and right areas are defined for each line element and are consistent throughout the file, and the lines representing the limits of the file (neatline) are free of gaps.

The tests of logical consistency were performed by the USGS PROSYS program. The neatline was generated by connecting the four corners of the digital file, as established during initialization of the digital file. All data outside the enclosed region were ignored and all data crossing these geographically straight lines were clipped at the neatline. Data within a specified tolerance of the neatline were snapped to the neatline. Neatline straightening aligned the digitized edges of the digital data with the generated neatline, that is, with the longitude/latitude lines in geographic coordinates. All internal areas were tested for closure using PROSYS.

For Digital Revision Status = Not revised
Data completeness reflects the content of the source quadrangle. Features may have been eliminated or generalized on the source graphic, due to scale and legibility constraints.

For Digital Revision Status = Limited Update
This file has undergone limited update digital revision. The file contains only (1) those features that are photoidentifiable on monoscopic source, supplemented with limited ancillary source, and (2) those features, present on the original source quadrangle, that can not be reliably photoidentified but that are not considered particularly prone to change.

For Digital Revision Status = Standard Update
This file has undergone standard update digital revision. The data completeness of this file meets NMD standards for feature content.

				<procdesc>Edgematching: During the edgematching process alternating quads were brought into Arc Edit as edit coverages. Using the NRIMA 7.5 minute reference guide, only alternating, or hatched quads were selected as edit coverages in an attempt to prevent migration of features. Surrounding quads were brought up as back coverages, and arcs or polygons that traversed quad boundaries were edgematched with a degree of error of less than .5 meter. Any arc on the edit coverage that approached the quad boundary but did not have a corresponding arc on the back coverage was given an error code of Ea00, referring to an arc feature not continued over a quad boundary with no correction made. All edit coverage arcs that were moved to align with back coverage arcs with a measure of error of less than .5 meter were coded as either Ed12 or Eb12 in the edgenote item. Ed12 being the code given to arcs that were off by more than .5 meter but less than 15 meters. Eb12 was the code given to arcs that were off by more than 15 meters. The direction in which the arc was moved to be closer to the corresponding back coverage arc was noted in the mdir item field, and the distance between the edit coverage arc and the corresponding back coverage arc was recorded in the mdist item field.</procdesc>

				<procdesc>Quality Review - Final Phase: The tertiary quality review process is the final QA phase and consists of thorough reviews of the data layer. These inspections are aimed at identifying any remaining errors and inconsistencies in the data. The process involves running a series of Arc/Info macros (AMLs), the first of which logs all errors and recommends corrections. The attributes of each feature (arc and polygon) are compared to a master attribute list and any discrepancies and omissions are logged. All features are then reattributed and then all quads are mapjoined and mismatches in attributes across quadrangle boundaries are identified, tagged, inspected and corrected if necessary. Frequencies are then run on items of the .aat and .pat (when necessary) to identify any remaining features which have not been attributed. Finally, random manual quadrangle spot checks are performed and corrections made when necessary. All coverages are then exported (COMPRESS=FULL) and placed on the public web server for dissemination.</procdesc>
