Major Taxonomic Group: Dinoflagellates

Size and Shape: 30 µm long, 20 µm wide. Epicone and hypocone nearly equal, hypocone bears a stubby spine at the apex.

Plastids and Pigments: Typical peridinin-type plastid.  Has a large obvious pyrenoid.

Distinguishing features: The posterior spine and large pyrenoid.

Distribution: Worldwide in brackish and marine waters.
