A quasi-stationary upper-level low created strong upper level divergence over the State that produced a record setting 5-day rain event 1-5 October. Heaviest rains fell over the Midlands and the Low Country with 5-day rainfall totals ranging from 14 to 27 inches. Heaviest rainfall rates occurred on 3 October into the early morning hours of 4 October. The historical heavy rain event caused multiple dam failures in Richland and Lexington Counties and subsequent catastrophic flooding.
