Heavy rains associated with hurricane Floyd accumulated 15 to 20 inches in Horry County. Floodwaters overwhelmed drainage systems and were reported as 3 feet deep all across the county. The Waccamaw River flooded more than 1700 dwellings and remained above flood stage for 55 days. Myrtle Beach measured a storm total rainfall of 16.80 inches.
