WEATHER SUMMARY

A cold rain started the week. High pressure helped clear skies on Tuesday and Wednesday and allowed for welcomed drying. More wet weather returned on Thursday and Friday with heavy rainfalls along the coast. Widespread roadway flooding was reported between Charleston and Beaufort. Sunday ended the period with mostly sunny conditions and cool afternoon temperatures in the 50's. Statewide temperatures averaged 2 degrees above normal.

PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURE DATA

The maximum observed temperature was 68 degrees on January 23 at Beaufort. The minimum observed temperature was 19 degrees at Hunts Bridge on the morning of January 25. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall was recorded at Charleston AP with 3.27" on January 23. Statewide rainfall for the period averaged 2.2 inches.

The Sandhill Research and Education Center in north Columbia reports an average 4-inch depth soil temperature of 46 degrees.

RIVERS AND SURF

River stages are above normal. Several eastern rivers are at or above flood stage.
Surf temperatures at Myrtle Beach and Savannah will average around 51 degrees.
