WEATHER SUMMARY

Sunny, hot weather was observed on Memorial Day Monday with several sites reporting high temperatures in the mid-90's. A weak push of drier and cooler air settled over the state on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, locations in the mountains noted low temperatures in the upper 40's. With a boundary lying across the central and southern counties, afternoon thunderstorms were limited in coverage. Numerous storms formed Friday afternoon. Hail and damaging high winds were reported in the upstate and north midlands. Clouds increased over the weekend helping to reduce the surface heating. For the period, the state average temperature was three degrees above normal.

The highest official temperature reported was 99 degrees at Jamestown on May 31. The lowest official temperature reported was 47 degrees at Longcreek on the morning of June 2. The heaviest 24-hour rainfall reported was 0.82" at Owens Field AP in Columbia on June 4. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.3.”

RIVERS AND SURF

South Carolina river stages were below normal. Surf temperatures at Myrtle Beach
and Savannah will average around 79 degrees.
