SOUTH CAROLINA WEATHER AND CLIMATE

WEATHER SUMMARY

A frontal boundary settled across the state early in the week with clouds and mild afternoon temperatures. High pressure slowly built into the state by Wednesday with sunny dry weather and brisk northeast winds. Sunny skies continued for inland sites while the northeast coast experienced cloudy and wind conditions as Hurricane Isabel passed several hundred miles offshore. Isabel's circulation spread into the Pee Dee and northeast coastal counties late Thursday with bands of rainshowers and winds gusting over thirty miles per hour. Clearing was observed on Friday and into the weekend with warm sunny afternoons. The average statewide temperature for the period was near normal.

The highest temperature reported was 92 degrees at Edisto Beach on September 20. The lowest temperature was 53 degrees at Salem and Hunts Bridge on the morning of September 18. The heaviest official 24-hour rainfall reported was 1.34" at Loris ending at 7:00 a.m. on September 19. The average statewide rainfall for the period was 0.1".
