Jasper County’s natural resources are expansive—the District runs along the Savannah River and stretches from the sandhills to the coast. The District also is unique in terms of the types of land use; much of the land adjacent to I-95 is being rapidly developed, while many large, contiguous tracts remain in rural or plantation land management. The diversity evidenced in Jasper County provides a unique opportunity for partnership development and community collaboration. The JSWCD, in conjunction with local community and resource specialists, are currently developing a Natural Resource Protection Plan for the County. The plan is due out mid-2006 and will serve as a basis for responsible growth and conservation of Jasper’s resource legacy.
