Shotgun Shooting Sports

The National Shooting Sports Scholastic Clay Target Program was implemented in South Carolina in January 2006. This program promotes all three regimens of clay target shooting: Sporting Clays, Trap, and Skeet. The SCDNR has assisted this growing program by off-setting costs for shot shells and targets, as well as providing training for coaches and students in firearms safety and hunter education. Since its beginning in 2006, the program has continued to grow in success and popularity. In fact, teams from SC have placed in the top ranking of all youth shooters at the National SCTP Tournament in Sparta, Illinois for several years. The program has grown to over thirty-four active youth shooting teams. These teams are comprised of students from public schools, private schools, 4-H, and other shooting clubs.

The SCDNR supports youth shooting through the SC Youth Shooting Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to support youth shooting sports in South Carolina. Together with the SCYSF, the SCDNR supports a safe shooting environment and encourages participation in the clay shooting sports. If you have a young man or woman in the 4th-12th grade who is interested in clay target shooting, this program is for you.
