What is SC Archery in the Schools?

A physical education curriculum designed to teach Olympic-style archery in 4th-12th grades. Students shoot at bullseye targets placed before an arrow resistant net in their gymnasium. The program also involves archery history, physical, emotional and safety strategies.

What benefit will this program have on my school?

The Archery: On Target for Life is a unit of study written by the Kentucky Department of Education curriculum specialist which contains Academic Expectations and Core Content for Assessment required by state regulations for Physical Education. Consequently the curriculum has been modified to reflect the South Carolina educational standards.

How does my School get started?

Complete an application for your school and at least one instructor. (Download from website or call 1-800-277-4301). Attended one of the scheduled training sessions.

How much does the program/equipment cost?

The total cost of the equipment kit is $2,400 for School. The equipment kit includes:

  • 11 bows
  • 5 dozen arrows
  • 1 safety net
  • 1 repair kit
  • 1 storage box

Who may become an instructor and how?

Participating schools should send at least one teacher to an 8-hour Basic Archery Instructor training (BAI) course sponsored by the DNR. The fee for training is $35.00.

Is this program recognized by the South Carolina Board of Education?

Yes, The NASP correlates with the SC Physical Education Assessment Program for Middle and High Schools. It also meets with four (4) of the movements required for Elementary Schools.
