Training dates:
Please contact us for details and registration. Sgt. Dennetta Dawson at 1-800-277-4301, DawsonD@dnr.sc.gov Students shoot at bullseye targets placed before an arrow resistant net in their gymnasium. Equipment used is state-of-the-art and designed to fit every student. Thanks to support from the archery industry, the $4,800 equipment “kits” can be purchased by schools and non-profit organizations only for $2,400. People from every state and several countries have inquired about the program to learn how it might be brought to their students. Through a series of workshops presented around the country, state agencies are learning how to implement the program. In the later part of 2004 SCDNR Education officers were trained as Basic Archery Instructor Trainers (BAIT) for the Archery in the Schools program. Consequently, ten pilot schools began the program and as of Spring 2006 we have 35 Elementary, Middle and High Schools participating in the program around the State. In March of 2006 the program ushered in the first state tournament as a part of the Palmetto Sportsman’s Classic. This annual event will allow the students to represent their schools as well as to compete for trophies and prizes. The South Carolina Archery in the Schools Program is for public and private schools and maybe modified to include home school associations. You can learn more about the program by contacting the state coordinator, Sgt. Dennetta Dawson at 1-800-277-4301, DawsonD@dnr.sc.gov, or write to Investigations & Education Post Office Box 12559 Charleston, SC 29422. |
