Public Lottery Hunts

SCDNR will be using an online application system for public hunts that are conducted on a lottery basis. Applications for hunts are entered under the heading "LOTTERY HUNTS" using the internet site. Be sure to have your DNR Customer ID number ready when preparing to apply. Your Customer ID number can be found on any hunting or fishing license issued by the department.

To All Lottery Hunt Participants:

We appreciate your support of SCDNR and of the Lottery Hunt Program.

Beginning this year applicants will only be able to apply and pay online. Paper applications will no longer be available. The online application link can be found on the SCDNR website. The deer lottery link will be available Tuesday, July 1, 2014, through the deadline, Friday, August 15, 2014. The waterfowl/quail lottery links will be available mid-September 2014 and turkey will follow late January 2015. Previously accumulated preference points will apply.

Applicants will be able to select a "non-draw" option that will allow you to apply and acquire a preference point but you will not be considered for selection. This will benefit those who know that they will not be available for the hunts in the current year but want to maintain their preference history and be considered for selection the following year.

The Resident Temporary Wildlife Management Area Permit that has been offered to all lottery hunters in the past will now only be offered for the ½ day hunts (waterfowl and turkey). Those who apply and are selected for the other hunts must possess a regular Wildlife Management Permit at the time they hunt. Remember that the Wildlife Management Area Permit is included in the Sportsman License, Junior Sportsman License and Gratis-over 64 License. A Wildlife Management Area Permit is not required of anyone under the age of 16.

We will only notify the primary applicant of the lottery results. Whether selected or not, the notification of the results will only be mailed to the primary applicant. The team members will be listed and selected primary applicants will receive hunt instructions. E-mail notification may be available for the deer hunts. We encourage applicants to use the e-mail notification option so we can minimize postage.

Again, we appreciate your support and encourage you to introduce someone to the outdoors. If you have any questions, please contact Patty Castine at 803-734-3609.

The Public Lottery Hunts (PLH) program is one means by which the Wildlife Section of the SCDNR (South Carolina Department of Natural Resources) works to provide hunting opportunity to the general public. This program provides hunting opportunities to the public on lands managed intensively for wildlife. The program has experienced growth since its inception with the addition of hunt sites, hunt dates, applicant numbers, and species hunted.

The PLH program is a multi faceted effort. The success of the PLH program lies in the ability of DNR staff to treat each applicant fairly and equitably without bias. The PLH program serves as a hunter recruitment and retention tool because the program provides a quality hunting experience for novice and seasoned hunters, both youth and adult, female and male on managed lands.
