Governor's Institute for Natural Resources Conservation

Invest a week of your summer to take part in the Governor's Institute, and what you see and do could influence the rest of your life. The Institute is an opportunity for you to study your environment up close, leaving with rewards beyond a simple increase in knowledge. The tangible rewards include college credit and possible college scholarships. The intangible rewards, like new friends from across the state and the opportunity to try new things, cannot easily be measured. Look at what the Institute can offer. Take a chance on learning things that will change your perspective!

Background

The Institute is a cooperative venture of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina Conservation Districts Foundation, the 46 Conservation Districts of South Carolina, and Lander University. This program exposes young people to careers in conservation, and as a true environmental study course, offers college scholarships and college credit to those passing the comprehensive final examination. Since its inception, over 3,000 students have participated in this program winning over $70,000 in scholarships. Students get a wonderful chance to experience the joys that South Carolina's natural resources can provide. The Institute is planned and staffed by employees of the SC Department of Natural Resources-Land, Water, And Conservation Division. The program is open to current 11th and 12th grade students in South Carolina.
