Description

The Gray Court Tract consists of 60 acres and is located in the eastern portion of Laurens County. This property was acquired by the DNR in 1987.

The tract is comprised of approximately 15 acres of mature bottomland hardwood timber and 24 acres of pine sawtimber and pulpwood mixed with upland hardwood species. The remaining 21 acres is open land utilized as a public dove field and other wildlife openings. The public dove field is prepared annually and has generally been fair to good, especially during the first season, in early September. Although this area is very small, it provides good hunting opportunities for other wildlife species such as white-tailed deer and small game species like squirrel, rabbit and bobwhite quail. Furbearers such as raccoon, fox, coyote, and bobcat also can be found on the tract.

In addition to the public hunting opportunity, this tract is available for use by those interested in wildlife observation, nature study, wildlife photography, and other types of non-consumptive outdoor recreation. The area provides excellent habitat for a variety of non-game wildlife species which include birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
