Types of Funding

Two Sources of Funding For Cooperative Research Projects:

  1. Contractual Cooperative Research
A portion of of the Cooperative Research funds are set aside for internally developed projects where cooperating commercial or recreational fishermen and universities are contracted by the Department of Natural Resources to gather data and/or conduct fisheries research.
  2. Grant Funded Cooperative Research
The Cooperative Research program provides funds to be distributed to cooperating commercial and recreational fishermen in form of competitive grants. Grant funded research projects are different from the contractual research projects in that the fishermen submit proposals for marine fisheries research projects based on their own ideas. Early in 2006, NOAA approved the sub-recipient status for SC SeaGrant to facilitate the awarding of grants. All Cooperative Research grants are funded through the South Carolina SeaGrant Consortium.
