Student Research
The ACE Basin NERR provides an ideal situation for student research. The Reserve funds two NOAA funded graduate research fellowships every two years. Recent projects included a study to determine if the presence of a large colony of rhesus monkeys has had measurable impacts on the vegetation of Morgan Island and on the water quality in the surrounding waters; an examination of the effects of the shape of marsh hammocks on plant diversity; development of a land-use planning approach for the Ashepoo-Combahee-Edisto (ACE) Basin; and a study of plant-herbivore interactions.
