Marine Infectious Disease Laboratory

Infectious diseases can have significant impacts on marine organisms potentially affecting the health of important marine resources. The SCDNR Marine Infectious Disease Laboratory provides a biosecure space for the study of marine pathogens. Current research includes studies on interactions between immune mechanisms and viral pathogens of marine shrimp. Facilities include bioassay systems for controlled challenge and laboratory support for basic studies on molecular biology and physiology of host pathogen interactions. Results are applied to the analysis and management of risks to and from commercially significant finfish and shellfish. Contact Craig Browdy and see the NOAA Bioassay website.
