A portion of the temporary hunting closure zone will reopen to hunting at 11:59 pm on Thursday, September 27th.

Due to the extreme high river level and widespread flooding following Hurricane Florence, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) declared a temporary closure for hunting within the Pee Dee and Waccamaw River drainage systems on all game species except for alligator, doves, teal, Canada geese, hogs and coyotes. The continued catastrophic flooding has created potential for exploitation of game species that are deprived of their normal escape routes and confined to small areas of high ground.

Based on flood waters subsiding in the upper extent of the Great Pee Dee River drainage SCDNR is lifting the hunting closure in the area north (upstream) of SC Hwy 34 near Darlington to the North Carolina state line . The amendment to the closure zone that will reopen this area goes into effect at 11:59 pm on Thursday, September 27th. For the rest of the area the 10-day closure of the hunting season for all game species excluding alligator, dove, teal, Canada geese, hogs and coyotes remains in effect until 11:59 pm on Friday, September 28th, 2018. DNR will continue to monitor flooded areas to adjust the closure zones and timeframes as conditions change. There will likely be a significant portion of the zone that will see an extension in the closure time beyond Friday the 28th. Any changes will be posted on the SCDNR website. The closure effects all public and private lands included within the areas described below.
