Due to the extreme high river levels and widespread flooding following Hurricane Florence, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is declaring an extension to the temporary closure for hunting within portions of the Pee Dee and Waccamaw River drainage systems on all game species except for alligator, doves, teal, Canada geese, hogs and coyotes. The unrelenting catastrophic flooding and rising water levels in these river systems continues to create potential for exploitation of game species that are deprived of their normal escape routes and confined to small areas of high ground.

Due to receding flood waters and continued surveillance and monitoring, the new closure order EXCLUDES several areas that were previously closed, theses areas will reopen to hunting on Saturday, September 29th. Please refer to the descriptions below and the provided maps to determine if you are in an area that will no longer be closed.

For the affected area there will be a 6-DAY EXTENSION of the closure of the hunting season for all game species excluding alligator, dove, teal, Canada geese, hogs and coyotes. This closure goes in effect at 11:59 pm on Friday, September 28th, 2018 and will continue until 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 4th, 2018. SCDNR will continue to monitor flooded areas to adjust the closure zones and timeframes as conditions change. Any changes will be posted on the SCDNR website. The closure effects all public and private lands included within the areas described below and indicated on the provided maps.
