Due to the extreme high river levels and widespread flooding following Hurricane Florence, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is declaring an extension to the temporary closure for hunting within portions of the Pee Dee and Waccamaw River drainage systems on all game species except for alligator, doves, teal, Canada geese, hogs and coyotes. The unrelenting catastrophic flooding and rising water levels in these river systems continues to create potential for exploitation of game species that are deprived of their normal escape routes and confined to small areas of high ground.
Due to receding flood waters and continued surveillance and monitoring, the new closure order EXCLUDES several areas that were previously closed, theses areas will reopen to hunting on Saturday, September 29th. Please refer to the descriptions below and the provided maps to determine if you are in an area that will no longer be closed.
