Prescribed burning benefits are many, but challenges abound

By using a controlled burn on South Carolina heritage preserves - when wind, temperature and humidity conditions are appropriate to remove some of the forest fuel like leaves, pine needles and twigs - fire managers like Johnny Stowe with DNR can greatly reduce the chances of a catstrophic wildfire.
