Hampton County’s Lake Warren pier to be rebuilt by state DNR
Lake George Warren was purchased by the S.C. Wildlife and Marine Resources Department (now S.C. Department of Natural Resources) in 1967. A pier originally built in 1984, which has been partially closed, is scheduled to undergo reconstruction beginning the week of Nov. 6.
S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries staff will be working in conjunction with the DNR
Engineering Section staff throughout the project. Date of completion will depend on weather and other activity schedules associated with the Fisheries Section this fall. A major portion of the project is expected to be completed by December.
Total estimated cost is $16,600. The project is being funded by federal Sportfish Restoration Funds. Sportfish Restoration funds are derived from a federal tax on related fishing equipment and a portion of the gas tax calculated in relation to the number of fishing licenses sold in South Carolina.
The materials to rebuild the pier have been purchased and delivered to Lake George Warren. SCE&G is expected to install a temporary power line/source within the next two weeks to allow for construction.
Public access is through Lake Warren State Park, with fishing also available from the banks. Lake Warren Fishing Pier is located on County Road 41, between SC Highway 363 and US Highway 601, southwest of Hampton on the 200 acre Lake George Warren. The wooden pier with a tee section at the end has crushed stone access from a crushed stone parking area.
