New guidelines apply for the still hunter who hunts the Francis Marion Forest for deer.
On all either-sex still gun and muzzleloader hunts on all Units (Hellhole, Waterhorn, Wambaw, Santee, & Northampton) each harvested antlerless deer must be tagged with an individual antlerless deer tag except when an antlerless deer is harvested on one of the countywide either-sex days. If it is a countywide either-sex day (Oct. 6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27, Nov. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, Dec. 15, 22, 29, Jan. 1) then an individual antlerless tag does not have to be used. However, all harvested deer (bucks & does) from the Francis Marion must still be checked in at the nearest deer check station.
See Wildlife Management Area Map #9 for a list of deer check stations. Maps are available at all S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) locations.
Individual antlerless deer tags may be purchased locally at the licensing division located at the Department of Natural Resources Ft. Johnson office on James Island. An application for the tags (PDF file) can be found on page 53 of the 2007-08 Rules and Regulations brochure. The tagging requirement does not apply to archery hunts or deer hunts with dogs on the Francis Marion Forest.
Refer to the current 2007-08 Rules and Regulations brochure for more information.
