SC Department of Natural Resources One day.. Three Hours.. A World of Diffrence Beach Sweep River Sweep South Carolina

You'd like to be a Site Captain…

Do you have a group of people, perhaps a scout troop, a class, a church, civic organization or business that would like to get involved in Beach Sweep River Sweep? Do you know an area that needs attention? Why not coordinate a cleanup for your group or for that site that needs help?

Site Captains have three primary responsibilities:

  • identifying a littered water body to clean
  • recruiting volunteers
  • reporting the data from the cleanup

Additionally, site captains may also assist by contacting the media, getting local sponsors for in-kind donations such as grocery stores donating water or soft drinks for the volunteers, local eateries donating lunch, and local hardware or department stores donating gloves. If you choose to be a site captain, we will assist you in recruiting volunteers by forwarding you the names of people in your area who have contacted us to volunteer. Once we receive your reply that you will join us as a site captain we will also send you a packet of information that includes a site captain manual, a data card, garbage bags, and a T-shirt order form. Instructions for filling out the data card are also included. Reporting your data, either through email or the post office, helps South Carolina track its success and further its goal toward a litter-free state.

If you would like to be a site captain this year, please fill out the e-reply card. Site captains that participated in Beach Sweep River Sweep the previous year also receive an annual mailing asking if they would like to do so again for the upcoming Beach Sweep River Sweep event. All site captains receive a complimentary T-shirt.
