2007 Cleanup Sites
Beach Sweep River Sweep is South Carolina’s largest one-day volunteer
cleanup event of its kind. Every 3rd Saturday in September from 9 a.m. to 12
noon thousands of South Carolinians clean rivers, lakes, creeks, beaches, marshes, and swamps of litter and aquatic debris and they’re not alone. The cleanup, organized by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, is part of The Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup in which 88 countries, including the United States, participated in 2004. Last year, more than 4,000 South Carolinians were part of the 275,000 participants worldwide that made a difference in the health, safety, and enjoyment of our waterways. What goes into our creeks and rivers eventually flows to the sea, which is why statewide participation from the mountains, through the midlands, to the low-country is so important to our success. Would you like to be a part of this year’s Beach Sweep River Sweep? Anyone can participate including, families, church groups, civic organizations, recreational clubs, businesses, school groups, and individuals.
