ABSTRACT

Water-level data collected in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper Counties since 1975 are discussed and evaluated. Data collected during 1991-93 are presented as potentiometric maps, and data from selected wells for the entire period are presented as hydrographs. Average water levels in northern Beaufort, Colleton, and Hampton Counties have remained stable since 1975; those in southeastern Colleton County, southern Beaufort, and Jasper Counties have declined. Seasonal water-level changes have varied greatly among areas and years, ranging from 0 to over 10 feet. Except in eastern Colleton County, seasonal water-level changes are at least as large as the post-1975 water-level decline and have tended to increase with time. In areas of saltwater intrusion, large seasonal changes may be expected to increase the rate of saltwater diffusion.
