Licenses: Hunting License required. Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (Federal Duck Stamp) that is validated by the hunter signing the stamp in ink across the face of the stamp

Swans
Tundra/Whistling Swans: Cygnus columbianus
Trumpeter Swans: Cygnus buccinator

Trumpeter Swan

Description
Both species are large with pure white plumage.

Average Size
Trumpeter Swans have an average length of 59 inches and an average weight of 28 pounds. Tundra Swans have an average length of 52 inches and an average weight of 16 pounds.

Preferred Habitat
Once thought to be rare, trumpeter swans are slowly increasing in Alaska and on western refuges and parks. Whistling swans are common and increasing. They winter near Chesapeake Bay, San Francisco Bay, Puget Sound and Salton Sea. Occasionally found in fields.
