On Monday, heavy rains fell over the city of Florence and caused widespread street flooding. Nearly two and a half inches of rain fell at both Quinby and Hartsville. Southward moving storms on Tuesday produced episodes of violent weather. At 7:55 p.m., McEntire ANG AP was raked by winds gusting to 68 mph. Cloud tops, rising nearly 12 miles high, contributed to updrafts and hail formation described as "baseball-sized" (2.75–inch diameter) which fell at Piedmont in Greenville County. The hail path bombarded the community of Cornwall in Chester County with 2.50-inch diameter stones. Rainfall amounts of two inches or more were reported at Longtown, Winnsboro and Andrews. For most of Wednesday, cloudy skies and northeast winds kept temperatures over the northern counties nearly ten degrees cooler than those over the Lowcountry. At 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning, Lake Thurmond instruments recorded a thunderstorm wind gust of 53 mph. Keowee Dam measured 1.93 inches of rain for the 24-hours ending at 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning. A trajectory of northwest to southeast moving thunderstorms continued through Thursday night. Hot weather dominated the Friday and Saturday period with maximum temperatures in the middle to upper 90's. Manning, Bamberg, Johnston and Barnwell baked under a 98 degree shade temperature Friday afternoon. On Saturday, the last official day of spring, Clemson and Pickens reported high temperatures of 97 degrees. A few lone and passing showers were observed Sunday across the western counties and along the Savannah River. The state average temperature for the period was three degrees above normal.
The highest official temperature reported was 99 degrees at Sandy Run and Johnston on June 20. The lowest official temperature reported was 62 degrees at Caesars Head on June 17. The heaviest 24-hour rainfall reported was 2.71 inches at Florence AP ending at 7:00 a.m. on June 16. The state average rainfall for the period was 0.9 inches.
