ANS TASK Force
Successful management of non-native aquatic invasive species is one of the most pressing issues in the field of natural resources management in the country. Impacts include both dramatic changes in plant and animal community structure and dynamics and economic impacts to manage use of our water resources.
The Department of
Natural Resources
recently completed a
three year Aquatic Nuisance Species
Communications Plan
which identifies
strategies to better
inform the public
about aquatic
invasive species and
to better
communicate with
policymakers. An
important outcome of
the plan was the
recommendation to
form a multi-agency
Aquatic Invasive
Species Task Force
and to develop and
implement a
statewide Aquatic
Invasive Species
Management Plan.
These
recommendations are
consistent with
actions in other
states to support
national efforts to
prevent and control
aquatic invasive
species problems in
public waters.
State management
plans foster
intrastate
communication and
coordination among
appropriate state
and federal agencies
and nongovernmental
organizations and
may qualify states
for potential grants
for control
programs.
