SC Wildlife Magazine

SC Wildlife Magazine

South Carolina Wildlife magazine has a long tradition of helping young people (and adults!) learn about the importance of the environment and the value of our state’s natural resources. The magazine’s statement of purpose, included on the Contents Page of each issue, says it best – Dedicated to the conservation, protection and restoration of our wildlife and natural resources, and to the education of our people to the value of these resources.

Generations of South Carolinians have grown up with teachers who decorated their bulletin boards with breathtaking photographs, posters and informative articles taken from the pages of South Carolina Wildlife. Teachers have drawn from the articles and information in SCW primarily to help students learn about science and natural history. The pages of each issue of South Carolina Wildlife magazine are packed with feature stories and photographs describing the work being undertaken by S.C. Department of Natural Resources scientists in the agency’s Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries; Land, Water and Conservation; and Marine Resources Divisions, as well as many general interest articles about plants and animals, outdoor recreation, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, state history and more. The magazine has helped inspire a love of the outdoors and led to careers in the natural sciences or other conservation-related fields for many of our young readers.

Limited numbers of back issues of SCW are also available for free to any teachers/educators in South Carolina (including private and home schools) for classroom use on a first-come, first-serve basis. Multiple copies (in quantities sufficient for an entire class) are available for some issues. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, we are unable to mail or ship multiple copies at this time – any such orders must be picked up at SCDNR headquarters in Columbia. Contact the editor of SCW for more information.
