Taxonomic literature database
Our taxonomic literature database (developed using ProCite©)
is searchable as a PDF only at this time. Authors, titles, keywords,
etc. can be searched as words using Acrobat Find (Ctrl+F) on the
Acrobat toolbar. This list is updated frequebtly. We are planning
to institute a searchable database form for more advanced search
methods in the near future. Click
here to view the SERTC taxonomic literature library (PDF).
Please contact SERTC staff with questions or comments regarding the
reference list. We welcome reprint contributions relevant to invertebrates
in the South Atlantic Bight, as well as general keys to world
taxa.
Specimen Databases
SERTC specimen database
Currently, most of the SERTC invertebrate collection database is accessible through a portal of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). SERTC catalogue records are periodically exported, reformatted and submitted to the GBIF through the OBIS node at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University. A variety of search functions, including specific species searches, can be performed from the SERTC database page. To view a complete list of all of the SERTC records in the GBIF database, click HERE. Information about additional records or species that have not yet been submitted to GBIF may be obtained by contacting SERTC staff.
Other
helpful specimen databases for the South Atlantic Bight:
The National Benthic
Inventory at NCCOS's Center for Coastal Environmental Health and
Biomolecular Research (CCEHBR) in Charleston, SC, has established
an online database of benthic species distributions with a corresponding
voucher collection of specimens. The database holds species distributional
information from the many surveys conducted by NOAA and partnering
institutions around the United States. The specimen collection
holds taxonomic vouchers from these surveys. Both the collection
and distributional information databases are fully searchable
on a variety of parameters (taxonomic, geographic, physical) at
