Foothills Trail from Sassafras Mountain to Table Rock State Park is open to hikers as of January 20, 2017

After hundreds of man-hours by Foothills Trail Conference volunteers and S.C. State Park Service personnel to clear trails damaged and blocked by the Pinnacle Mountain Fire, the Foothills Trail and Pinnacle Mountain Trail within Table Rock State Park are now safe and open to the public. The 9.7-mile section of the Foothills Trail between Sassafras Mountain and Table Rock State Park, managed by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the S.C. State Park Service, respectively, is now completely open for the first time since the Pinnacle Mountain Fire began in early November 2016. Some maintenance activity is still taking place on the trail, but it is now open to hikers and backpackers.
