Health Assessments

Partners in manatee conservation and animal care come together in various locations to conduct health assessments on manatees, satellite tag new animals and check on existing tags. These assessments are large logistical operations involving teamwork and collaboration. Data collected from these events gives important insight into manatee migration patterns, specific habitat use and the overall well-being of these animals.

Clearwater Aquarium Research Institute leads tagging efforts and migration studies for manatees. Collaboration among partners include Georgia Aquarium, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, University of Florida, Savannah State University, SeaWorld, Brevard Zoo, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
