Doves - Pigeon

Licenses: Hunting License required. Migratory Bird Hunting and Seasons set annually.

Limits: Unprotected - May be harvested along with mourning doves and white-winged doves, but does not count in daily bag limit.

Rock Dove, Rock Pigeon or Common Pigeon (Columba livia)

Description

  • Color variable; most are bluish-gray with black bands on wings and a black tip to the tail
  • Wings broad but pointed
  • Gray-black bill

Average Size

Length: 12-14 inches; approximate weight is between 4 to 6 ounces.

Preferred Habitat
Their range is statewide – common in cities, towns, around grain bins and cattle feed lots. Feeds on grass seed and waste grain.
