September 17th 2005, was a big day for South Carolina’s inland waterways! More than 2500 volunteers across the state gave 3 hours of their time on a Saturday morning to clean litter from our lakes, streams, rivers, creeks, and swamps. These volunteers were part of the statewide Beach Sweep River Sweep clean-up effort coordinated each year on the third Saturday in September by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium. The photos on this page offer a glimpse of the fun that was had and the good work that was done at Beach Sweep River Sweep 2005. Many thanks to our local coordinators, called Site Captains, who provided photos! Enjoy!
