A category one hurricane made landfall near Bulls Bay on July 14 and moved slowly northwestward. The hurricane slowly dissipated over the upstate a few days later. The very heavy rainfall associated with this system produced the most extensive and destructive floods in the history of the Santee System, authentic records being as far back as 1840.
