All You Need to Know About Your Flood Insurance Rate Maps

Description: This class is a pre-requisite for Managing Floodplains through the NFIP course. Those who do not attend this class will not be able to register for the NFIP course. The mapping class will cover, but is not limited to the following items:

  • How to read an engineers scale
  • How to scale off the maps
  • How to interpret and use the information on the map
  • How to find the information you need in the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and apply it
  • What is a Digital FIRM (DFIRM)
  • How to access maps on line o Mapping reading exercise
  • LOMC's

Date: June 20, 2007

Cost: Free if attending 3 day course on July 11-12, 2007 entitled Managing Floodplains through the NFIP, otherwise cost will be $45.00. Separate registration required for both courses.

Managing Floodplains through the NFIP

Description: This course is designed to provide an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance. The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance. This is a three day course. Prerequisite course: All You Need to Know about Your Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
